Coloring Book for Adults: Relaxation, Anti-Stress, and Therapy
Have you heard of Zen coloring or Coloring Books for adults? In one of the Japanese school of Buddhism it is said that, to clearly be understood, one must meditate or self-contemplate. Zen coloring and other forms like Coloring Books for Adults are now being accepted by many. It is said that it could make you feel relaxed. It is a kind of activity wherein there is no mistake, no penalties for failure, just simple rules and pure fun!
Coloring books for adults are pages that are drawing and doodles can be simple to complex ones. It could be flowers, , graffiti, animals, human faces, combinations of all of them or just abstract patterns to their most complex forms. They are usually in a wire-frame format, wherein drawings are only inked in black lines. All you need is the copy of a page and gather your coloring pens, felt tips or any coloring medium you are comfortable with to get started!
There are many patters you can choose from. Mostly patterns that are good for relaxation like psychedelic ones. Psychedelic patterns are the ones that are surreal, some are mind blowing or trippy. But these are the ones that are most relaxing because of the symmetrical patterns that it has.
Coloring books for adults are now a thing to many art and crafts enthusiasts. Bringing out your inner creativity through colors without worrying to draw or conceptualized. You just need an imagination to use for the color combination that first comes to your mind. Or just go with the flow. The more colors, the more fun and relaxed. Let yourself focused on each pattern individually and then try to balanced the colors. Those colors would be the reflections of your emotions and feelings for that moment.
A lot of coloring books for adults have already been published. There is a wide range to choose from. Some of those I saw and have pique my interest is the “Secret Garden” by Johanna Basford, the lady who sold a million copies of her coloring books for adults. Who wouldn’t want a book that not just a coloring book but a treasure hunt! She also has other two coloring book for adults, “The Enchanted Forest” and “Lost Ocean” which will be released by October 2015. Here is a peek of one of her coloring books.
Another coloring book for adults that is selling much faster than cook book as they say in France is the “100 Coloriages Anti-Stress”. This book features intricate patterns of medieval art. There are also what they called extra-ordinary gardens which most of the users find relaxing and really stress relieving. It’s has become their therapeutic art manuals.
Last but not the least, this book I come across with on Instagram, it’s “Color me Creative” by Kristina Webb. This coloring book for adults features Kristina’s personal life and upbringing. It has 50 challenges art-inspired created and designed by her. What is interesting about this coloring book is the chance to download a free app to access an interactive feature of the book. It is in a form of customized icon which appears throughout the book that you can scanned. The book will be released also on October 2015.
Art therapy has proven to work wonders in many peoples lives. It doesn’t need to be in drawing. It could also be music, sculpting, painting, dancing and pretty much any artistic things you can think of. I myself de-stressed by looming rubber bands and crocheting. The uses and benefits of expressive arts like these really helps people in so many ways we couldn’t imagine. Some of these things are what people do as a hobby, so why not use it to give ourselves some love and be better?
Being a mom of three, and a wife to an ever busy and demanding hubby, I cannot guarantee that the stress I get will not take it’s toll on me.
