Hi! Sorry for no post and being lazy these past weeks! I can’t believe I didn’t post anything for the past two weeks? School year is over and my children is on vacation. Well, I thought I could have my vacation too! But that could never happened if you’re a mom. I know mom’s like me out there could relate to what I am saying.
For the news and update, I’m learning how to do knitting! Yes!
If I have a free time, what I’d like to do the most is to browse through my IG feeds. Spend my time looking at posts with my interest, of course crochet is one of that. Liking and commenting on my friends posts and just browsing through recommended posts that IG feeds me. There is this one time I was browsing through #howicrochet videos on IG that I stumble upon the #howiknit tags. I was fascinated on how they do their knitting. I find it calming. And so I decided, I have to learn to knit too! To have a break from crocheting, which sometimes really does stress the fingers especially when you are into amigurumi. I don’t know about others, but I sometimes feel that way.
I don’t have knitting needles, and I am not yet ready to buy one. Not at least I know If I can use it, or how to use it. So, I improvised. I have barbecue sticks that has been in my cabinet for sometime now. Those are bamboo and of a good quality sticks. I decide to use it for practice. At first, I was having a hard time on it, because the pointed end are too sharp for the yarn that I am using. What I did was trim the end by smoothing it with a nail file to make it blunt. It did work!
Why did I say it work? Because it really does! With all the help of the videos on YT, I learned how to cast on the stitches and some simple stitch. I tried the knit and purl stitch and just go on and practice with my new found “knitting needles”.
At first, I couldn’t believe I could make it. I posted a part of this on my IG and asked some expert knitters if I am doing it wrong. I am quite impressed with myself, because they mentioned how clean my stitches are for a beginner. Weee! I am using a 3ply yarn in this shot and I’ve measured my sticks diameter to roughly 2-3mm. According to seasoned knitters I’ve asked, it is a match. Lucky! And so, I go on with the knit and purl stitching and continue with my practice. I don’t really have something in mind what to do with this. Until I have some length and have the idea to do it like this. A mini ribbon! It could be attached to an alligator clip or a chain to be a keychain or a necklace. cute!
It didn’t stop me there, I started a new one, using just one stitch (knit stitch) all throughout. Took me days to finished but again, it’s worth it. Plus the easy-ness and calming feeling it has given me while making it. I made myself a headband, to keep my hair from falling on my face.
There you go! Some updates and some new hobby that kept me busy. I hope to post some more soon and continue with my pending projects. I still haven’t completed my last loomer of the week, and I’m hoping to post more of her works in my next posts. And to feature another loomer after her. I have someone on my list and I’m a bit excited to feature her and her designs. I am also eager to continue my crochet101 tutorials, I have a few already for those who are just starting to learn how to crochet. I have video and post that are easy to understand.
That’s it for now, and see you all in my next post!
